What is the Accommodation Like? [click to expand / minimise]
We carefully choose hosts for their ability to provide a friendly and supportive stay for their students. Wherever possible, their homes are located so
that students have an easy journey by public transport to and from the tuition premises. Local transport to and from the course is at extra cost. Find out more about a homestay.
The Programme [click to expand / minimise]
You are busily occupied on the course programme on six full days (Mondays to Saturdays) each week and on one evening.
You usually have English lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. There are leisure activities on Monday and Friday afternoons and on one evening, and full-day excursions on Wednesdays and Saturdays, except for the Saturday at the end of your course.
You normally spend Sunday with your hosts. View a sample course programme here.
English lessons [click to expand / minimise]
Your course (twenty forty-five-minute lessons each week) encourages you to make the most of your stay in England by concentrating on spoken English and it gives you maximum opportunity to practise both inside and outside the classroom. There are more formal lessons on grammar and vocabulary and less formal learning activities including Active English Practice sessions in the afternoons.
You learn through working in pairs and groups, acting out relevant real life situations, and through assignments or projects inside the teaching room or outside.
There is an excursion preparation lesson on the day before each full-day excursion and a follow-up lesson on the day after.
You will want to improve your English as much as you can so that you will be able to talk in a more relaxed and easy manner with your teachers, your hosts and your new friends on the course! The common language will, of course, be English! You’ll need your English, too, when you are out on excursions and when you are doing your shopping!
Activities and excursions [click to expand / minimise]
Indoor sports such as basketball or volleyball are available in the brand new Avery Hill Sports Centre, with swimming and ten-pin bowling nearby.
