Rickmansworth Homestay Image 1

Rickmansworth is an attractive town, 49 km to the north west of London and 18 km from London Heathrow Airport. It has its own underground and over ground rail stations and, according to the train you take, you can reach central London in only 30 thirty minutes. Find out how to get to Rickmansworth.

Our course takes place in the well-known Royal Masonic School, situated in extensive and beautiful parkland only a ten-minute walk from the town centre.

The residential accommodation is a crescent of houses alongside the impressive main building where students have their meals and lessons, and activities take place.

The Royal Masonic School has excellent facilities including a computer suite used by our students, an indoor heated swimming pool, a modern sports hall, tennis courts and extensive playing fields.

The Programme [click to expand / minimise]

You are occupied on the course programme all day every day and in the evenings too although, of course, there is free time for relaxation!

You usually have English lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. There are full-day excursions on Wednesdays and Saturdays, except for the Saturday at the end of your course.

There are leisure activities every afternoon and evening apart from excursion day afternoons.

English lessons [click to expand / minimise]

There are four forty-five-minute lessons on four mornings each week and three on two afternoons. Your course encourages you to make the most of your stay in England by concentrating on spoken English, giving you maximum opportunity to practise both inside and outside the teaching sessions.

You may be working to improve your skills in English grammar or increasing your vocabulary. You may be learning to be more confident in speaking and listening so that you communicate in a more relaxed and easy manner with members of our staff during leisure time and with your new friends on the course! The common language is, of course, English! You’ll need your English, too, when you are out on excursions and when you are doing your shopping!

You learn through working in pairs and groups, acting out relevant, real life situations and working on assignments or projects inside the teaching room or outside.

There will be an excursion preparation lesson on the day before each full-day excursion and a follow-up lesson on the day after.

Activities and excursions [click to expand / minimise]

The rich and varied activity programme may include internet club, quiz competitions, team games, local shopping expeditions, talent evenings, karaoke and discos.

If you particularly enjoy sporting activities, there may be volleyball, badminton, tennis, football, swimming, international Olympics and fun sports.

You go on excursions to such interesting and well-known places as Brighton, Cambridge and Windsor. There is always an excursion to London which includes an attraction such as a Blue Badge guided tour, the London Eye or a river boat trip.
