You stay in the home of your teacher as a member of the household! You learn English all day every day from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
You have regular sessions of one-to-one individual tuition which follow a plan designed especially for you to meet your particular needs. Then in your spare time you talk in English at every available opportunity.
People of all ages, backgrounds and levels of English benefit from these courses. What they all have in common is a determination to improve their skills in English.
Courses with independent accommodation (hotel, guesthouse or privately arranged) and a visiting teacher
The advantages are:
The choice is yours! You may have 20, 25 or 30 hours of tuition each week (15 hours on Young Learners' courses).
You decide when you come and for how long. Courses normally start on a Sunday and end on a Saturday. Most of our students come for one or two weeks but some stay for longer.
EJO has host teachers in London, across the south of England, in the west of England and in Wales.
These courses are suitable for all levels from elementary to advanced. However, for Business and Professional English we recommend that participants are at intermediate level or above.
All of our host teachers are qualified to British Council standards. Some have had careers in teaching; in language schools or in schools or colleges in the UK. Others have come into teaching from business or a profession.
We look at your requirements and choose the host teacher we feel is most suitable. We send you a profile of your teacher and, if you are happy, we reserve that teacher for you. It couldn't be simpler!
On the first morning of your course, you complete an English test and a Needs Analysis. You have a detailed discussion with your host teacher about your aims and objectives for your course and about specific language areas you wish to develop.
Whatever your needs, your host teacher plans a programme to meet them.
You join in the everyday life of your host teacher's household and have your meals together. Many students like to go shopping with their hosts, join them for local outings, meet their friends or just join in general activities in and around the home. You also have private study assignments to complete.
You stay in the comfortable house or apartment of one of our host teachers.
You have your own room and can be assured of a quiet place to study, either in your room or in an appropriate place elsewhere in the home.
We have visited the homes of each of our host teachers and we revisit at regular intervals to ensure that the standards we require are being maintained.
Hosts prepare the types of meals that they normally enjoy. Of course, they endeavour to take into account your food preferences, although it is important that you let us know in advance if you have any dietary or other special food requirements. Meal times are important for conversation in English!
